I have been a resident of Pine Bush, NY since I was born. I went to school here, played Little League, Field Hockey, was a Girl Scout, sold ears of corn on the corner of Route 52 & 302 for years and was a waitress at the only diner we had. Once I married my Prince Charming, we decided to start our own family and live right here in Pine Bush. We know all the locals, some of my friends from school have children that are now friends with our children. It is an all around great place to live. Just like any other town, we have heard stories, stories about strange things going bump in the night, encounters & sightings, are they truth or are they made up, that is for you to decide! Taking family portraits at holiday time can be a hectic and daunting undertaking; working with unwilling to smile children, coordinating Santa during his busy season and managing appointments for sittings and pickups. Everything can change in just a moment as Wendy Wellington knows from personal experience after taking a family portrait at her studio, Wonder, Simplicity and Beauty in Portraits.

One family arrived for their appointment and brought along a young girl they were babysitting. *Candice (name changed to protect her identity) had a certain appearance, something clicked and an idea began to form, but for the moment Santa was available and Candice was given her own moment. With a swoosh of a flash and the depression of the shutter, an image was created that helped give birth to a “Give Back to the Community Day” that brought together a team of volunteers and local Pine Bush school district children who otherwise would not have been able to have this experience.

Wendy thought about her own childhood memories and shared, “I will always remember those special days when my parents took me someplace special, a show in the city, a Pow-Wow to see real Indians, trips to the beach. I really enjoyed a trip with an aunt to a different shopping mall to pick out an outfit for my birthday or my Grandmother taking a bunch of us to Devitt’s to see Eggbert.” Wanting all children to have their own special moments combined with the experience with Candice and led Wellington to the Santa Experience and Day of Giving Back. As many will agree, a child may remember the gifts you give, but they are sure to recall occasions that impacted their life.

The Pine Bush Lions Club distributed a number of Thanksgiving baskets to local families in need and so an invitation was forwarded offering children a magical experience with Santa, cookies, a new toy, an ornament, a free 5 x 7 professional photograph and the possibility to receive gently worn dress clothing if desired. Behind the scenes, a number of clients of the Wonder, Simplicity & Beauty in Portraits studio were donating new toys for the event. Additionally, Ronnie Boniface held a number of fundraisers to purchase more toys as well as tape, wrapping paper and other supplies. Pine Bush Equipment, Walden Savings Bank, Luigi’s and K.E. Greer Infrastructure, were some of the local businesses that made donations as well as the Walker Valley Fire Department, the Pine Bush Lions Club. The individuals behind the scenes in addition to Wellington and the Claus’ were Holly Bodnar, Ronnie Boniface, Kaitlyn and Tracy Buckridge, Kelsey Gage, Stacey Lumley, Tiffany Reilly, Anthony and Ashley Wellington. These people provided not only planned assistance but stepped up when families could not find the way by picking the children up or helping someone start their car at the end of their appointment.

The day before the event, the gifts were sorted and as in the North Pole, Santa selected which child would receive a particular toy. “Putting the time in to hand pick each gift added a special touch instead of just picking a toy out of the girl age 5 – 10 pile,” Wendy stated.

On a cold Sunday morning, Anthony Wellington took his post in the street to help direct traffic and parking, the volunteers were stationed outside with racks of donated clothing and inside, Santa and Mrs. Claus awaited the children with Wendy and team. Time and time again the children expressed heartfelt gratitude, parents shared their stories and the tears were held back. Magic was happening. A Hess truck was given to a boy who used to receive them from his grandmother, she has passed and he is doubly touched. Another child receives “just what they wanted” and heart strings are pulled. One three year old boy announced it was his birthday and at the end of his visit, gave Santa a big hug and a kiss on the cheek, just because. Santa was able to spare a few minutes after the event to explain how touching it was to place exactly the right gift into precisely the right hands. Following their time with Santa, Mrs. Claus helped them create a personalized ornament keepsake and then off to decorate sugar cookies. Anyone within hearing range is touched, as children ask if they can hold on to their juice box or cookie for school tomorrow. Some arrive chilled to the bone because they do not have a warm coat, or hat or mittens and it is not because they are lost, these items are simply not available to them. A second idea is formed.

A last minute push and requests are spread through the community for warm coats, boots, hats, and scarves to be dropped off and sorted within the week so they are available to the children when they arrive with their families to pick up their photos with Santa. Adding to the list of volunteers, in addition to grocery items for each family Joanne Gross of Sneakers to Boots donated 9 gift certificates for new boots, Ellen Quimby of Quimby & Smith was a participating drop off point, a number of service organizations have hand knitted scarves and donated cold weather gear, so many to thank.

With such a high rate of success and overwhelming participation from the community, Wendy Wellington has promised to offer this event again next year and is contemplating a few enhancements. Perhaps young guests would arrive a bit earlier and be given time to select and change into gently worn formal clothing as well as some time with a volunteer hairdresser before their moments with Santa. And yes, everyone can contribute for next year in a number of ways. Purchase an extra toy, roll of wrapping paper or tape, hold onto children’s outgrown outerwear and dressier occasion clothes and reserve them for 2011. Cash donations are always welcome to the Pine Bush Lion’s Club P.O. Box 1118 Pine Bush, NY 12566.

A bit of whimsy mixed with practicality, offering the best you can to those who need it the most and allowing the littlest dreamers to put aside their worries and enjoy a few enchanting and possibly breathtaking moments. Wendy adds, “At least that was my dream… to have them lay in bed just before they fall asleep with wonderful thoughts of a special day.” Indeed.

Saturday was added for most people on my waiting list. I hope they all had as much fun as we did! We always have tons of laughs... a highlight was getting my daughters Dance Instructor to kneel up & down & reminded her of all the V sit-ups my girls complain about :) & when Santa mentioned the girl that put him on a diet last year to her girlfriend that came in this year & we didn't know until the minute she lwas leaving who her friend was. Too cute!

Saturday was filled with almost all newbies to the studio, but Sunday was filled with mostly people who enjoyed our Santa Sunday's last year so much they came back. I was amazed to see a few of the kids that were a bit nervous with Santa last year, march right up to him this year smiling away. What a difference it was for the kids to see the best Santa in the Hudson Valley the second time around!!!! Get ready, this kid is going to rock our world someday! He is either going to be a rock star, an Olympic swimmer, an Abercrombie & Fitch model or radical snowboarder one day. If he is anything like his dad, greatness will come easy. Every time I go to a swim meet in Pine Bush, I see his dads times still up there from almost 20 years ago. He certainly has the look & attitude for to go far & his portraits prove it. He did everything I asked him to do & more. Usually I can tell when the kids have had enough, this time, I was worn out before he was at his session! WARNING PARENTS... watch out, this kid is a heart breaker!!!

I love when dogs come for a family session. It is a lot of work, but is worth the effort. The pet dog always completes the family, they add so much to a portrait, in my opinion. The boxer here is only 9 months old & listened really well. It took longer then normal, but have some really sweet shots from their day at the studio. Enjoy!

I just wanted to send you a big thank you for your professionalism and patience with my increasingly difficult children. I know the pictures will be beautiful just from judging your other works. I think I know why they were so cranky and uncooperative, both developed a fever Thursday night :( darn sinus and ear infections from allergies. oh well such is life.

This little girl is too cute!!!! She is on the move at all times, so getting pictures prove difficult, but when that cake was put in front of her, she stopped in her tracks! I always look forward to Easter with the bunnies. The kids have so much fun & with such a nice variety of bunnies to pick, their portraits always have a personal touch. Little Miss A was celebrating her first Birthday at Studio 1859. We had a ball. She actually isn't quite 1 in these photos, but I watched her take some of her first steps. I am so lucky to have friends in the bunny business. Their bunnies are so sweet & playful. The kids always get a kick out of them. Check out the beautiful portraits of my pro model as well. She makes my life easy! She wasn't to sure about the bunnies when she first arrived, but felt comfortable enough by the end to let them climb on her. Way to go, GF! I think that the new moms today are WAY prettier then Mom's from the 90's! We used to wear the biggest shirts we could find to cover our growing bellies & now they show it off. They are pregnant for such a short time, they should be proud of their bodies. Every mom that walks though our doors are beautiful & confident. Here are a few of a mom that has kept her figure through 3 pregnancies. This adorable 1 year old was our runner up on the Christmas vote. She was the baby checking out Santa on his lap! She is one of the happiest babies I have ever seen. She has great parents too! Due to the 30+ inches of snow & winds from Thursday, Feb. 25th, I have been without power for 4 days so far! During that time, I was shoveling, finding firewood, playing with a generator that only always heat into our house, getting gallons of water or going to a Laundromat. This is the first few minutes I had to check my emails. Please be patient. I am hoping to have power sooner rather then later! Rumor has it, we might be waiting until this Thursday to have power, but that is crazy talk!

I would like to ask the Pine Bush Community & clients to assist us in a very special project. Wonder, Simplicity, and Beauty in Portraits feels that all under privileged children deserve to have a very magical experience with Santa and would like for them to have a little extra magic in their holiday season.

We are planning portrait sessions with Santa in December in which each child will have an opportunity to get dressed up, have cookies and milk, have their own special time with Santa Steve (www.deckthehalls.net), receive a wrapped toy, and a complimentary 5x7 portrait. This can give each child a wonderful experience and they will walk away dreaming about Santa.

In order to accomplish this goal we are asking for your help. Santa Steve and I have both agreed to donate our time to do this. We are asking clients to help collect gently worn formal clothing or holiday clothing for under privileged children within our district. If you could find it in the kindness of your heart to donate as you plan to clean your closets and pack away those winter outfits remember we would really appreciate your help.

We will be having a donation box set up at Pine Bush Equipment Monday through Friday 8am – 5 pm and Saturday 8am – 12pm. You can also contact me if you would like to drop off the clothing at my studio or mail them to me. We will be collecting formal wear, suits, sweaters, holiday clothing, tights, and shoes in excellent condition. If any of you would like to pass this along to groups you are involved in, please feel free. The more outfits we receive, the more children will benefit from the magical time.

Paradise Island, Bahamas...

This was a destination wedding from December. Since I was so overwhelmed, I decided to skip blogging at the time & focus on uploading images to my viewing site for the bride & groom to enjoy. This bride is so on her toes, she already ordered Thank You cards! Way To Go! We had a wonderful trip to the Bahamas & stayed for 6 days. I had taken a few extra days to relax a bit, however with all of the Christmas Cards & prints arriving from our Santa Sessions I was a bit on edge hoping my mother could handle the boxes & boxes of orders arriving daily. I worried before I left that I would forget some of my gear, that didn't happen, was worried our plane would go down, since we had the worst 2 flights EVER, that didn't happen... the only thing that did happen, I forgot to pack an important few pieces of clothing... I'll leave it at that. Lucky for me, half of each day was spent in a bathing suit, giving the one pair I had a chance to dry form being hand washed. Phew! Congratulations to the newly wedded couple, you have wonderful memories of a perfect wedding! Good luck to you! The next time I sit with you, I am hoping to get image numbers for your prints & book!

After all is said & done... Santa & I looked over all of the images from our sessions in November & tried to pick 1 of our favorite images to use as a display for our festivals, advertising for the 2010 season, etc. We could not decide. We have tons & tons of great images of them smiling away at the camera, but I personally want a moment in time look. The moment that these children BELIEVE. We have so many great memories with all of the children, and these photos spoke to our hearts. It was hard to pick 10, so 1 is impossible for us. I decided to let our clients, photography friends, family, etc. decide. The winning photo will be our spokesperson/s for our 2010 festival tour, on all of our advertising, slide show, cover of our book from 2009 & more. In return the family will receive the Comet package of the winning photo. The votes are from now until 12/31/09. I will be announcing our winner on 1/1/2010. Good luck to all of you!!

11-29-09 Santa Sessions...

Our last day :( We had such a wonder time with all of the families that came for our Santa Experience. We have had so many comments from their parents & was talked about for weeks afterwards. Some were heard commenting that that is the REAL Santa... He knows what time he will arrive at our house, how did he light up our noses, one of my favorites, the special letter Santa wrote to one little boy that lost his ornament & Santa personally delivered a new one, we have to leave out Chocolate Chips, that is his favorite, he is the real Santa, he knew what we wanted & brought it, etc., etc., etc. For all of you that didn't come, we suggest that you sign up for next years sessions now. We are already planning our new set & it will be AMAZING. It is going to be another room in Santa's house. He will be wearing a different costume, so the pictures will be entirely different. They will learn more about Santa. We will start telling about our secret set at the All American Weekend Festival in Goshen (July), the Harvest Festival in Pine Bush (September) & the AppleFest in Warwick (October). Be sure to find us there!!!!

Since I am now officially finished editing photos, placing orders, taking photos, etc. until after Christmas, I thought I would continue sharing some Santa Photos with all of you. I think we had the most adorable children from the area come through those doors. Most of them had something funny to say to Santa & one of the little girls from this day, told Santa he needed to go on a diet. LOL!!! She was going to leave him a carrot & Santa said "But my reindeer will eat that", so she decided to leave him a tomato. A TOMATO!!! Poor Santa, no cookies from that house :( When Santa talks about her now his "little round belly still shakes when he laughs like a bowl full of Jelly!" Maybe he will go on that diet after his long trip he will be taking this week. LEAVE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES.... PLEASE!!!

Memorable moments from 11/22/09 Santa Sessions

We are now on a downward slope of our Santa Sunday Sessions & we are having a great time. The children are awesome & they are all so polite. I think they are in awe of Santa & all of his trinkets. The kids are getting so much out of their time with Santa. We only have a handful of kids that by the end of the half hour still won't go near him, but most warm up right away to Santa. The girls seem a bit more cautious then boys, but we have had both boys & girls around 2 years old that are afraid of Santa. I am very proud to say our little girl that was terrified of Santa last year was caught giggling away when Santa told her a secret. She promised me that next year she will get on his lap, but that photo proved she wasn't afraid of him anymore :) In looking at all of the photos makes you think that we were busy little elves, but the kids were so good, the day flew by & ended with a wonderful group of kids. Santa looks exhausted, but I bet he went home & worked in his toy shop all night ;) We have 1 or 2 new time slots available since we opened up one more day. If you have any friends with young children that would love to sit with Santa, please have them call ASAP. Thanks!

2010 Toy/Clothing Drive

Lots of families have been enjoying their sessions with Santa & I at this point a lot of you are booking appointments for next year already. I am so excited to hear your comments on my new studio. Next year I will be running the sessions a bit different. Santa & I will be having a special Sunday in December to give out 5 - 10 minute sessions to less fortunate children that live in my community. All children will get to talk to Santa & I will be giving each one a 5X7 to remember the day. Instead of you receiving your complimentary 5X7 just for coming, you will need to bring in a toy for Santa to give children that day. Pick up a $15 - $20 gift for a boy or girl the same age as your children, if you want to help more, bring a gift for each of your children to donate to our cause. If you do, you will then get your 5X7. Now, I know I am streaching it a bit, but you have all been bringing your children in the best pajamas, formal & casual clothes this year. I would like to have all of you donate this years christmas clothes to help dress our less fortunate children next year (bring in gently used Christmas dresses, shirts, ties, shoes, tights, etc.) If you all donate your childrens clothes, we can let all of the children dress nice to see Santa & walk home with a beautiful outfit to wear on Christmas. If I only have a few of you donate, I can still dress the kids to see Santa, but keep the outfit for another child that size to see Santa. I hope you all keep this in mind & in January I will email you all the info. You can either drop them off at the end of the season, or mail them to me. We would love to have a rack full of great clothes to share next year. Thank you for taking the time to read this important blog & consider it. Memorable Moments from our 11-15-09 Santa Session

It seemed to me I took more pictures this Sunday then last, so I decided to count & had 14 more kids this week then last week. I was exhausted at the end of the day, but after looking through the photos, we have some really cute pitures for their parents to see. I did notice how tired Santa was at the end of the day too. I could hear them snoring from a mile away ;) (If any of you want to put all of their images onto a dvd, let me know.) I was really impressed by a few kids that were afraid of Santa & we ended up getting great photos of them on his lap. Out of 29 kids, we only had 1 that was terrified of Santa. Not bad for the day. Hats off to Santa, the Mrs. & my mother for keeping things in order & running smooth. Looks like next week we have 40 kids coming... GULP! I have to get a good nights sleep for that one.

First Session in the Studio...

Two Saturdays ago the new studio wasn't set up, props were everywhere and I was ok with that, I knew the person coming for a session wouldn't hold it against me. We have been friends for so long now we don't mind if we show up at the others house & we hadn't cleaned that day. That just proves we are more important to each other then judging our dirty floors or cluttered pile of mail we didn't get to :) Of course she will have to come & see the studio looking great at this point for sure! I did take a break from trying to make sense of my new space & think we have some great photos of her children. I even had her fix the flower arrangement for my Santa set. I have realized that I can't just throw a bunch of flowers in a pot & think it looks nice anymore :) Thanks for the help!

This family has 4 dogs & I must said if "Dad" ever retires from his day job, he should start training dogs!!! I was amazed last year when they bought their German Shepard in to see Santa with their son. I was a little concerned because he was so big, but he listened to "Dad" the whole time. I like to have a well trained dog myself, but he must put some serious time into his dogs. I was able to meet another one of their dogs this year at our Santa Sunday & I thought there was no one he would be as smart as the German Shepard... I was wrong...again! My dog looks like a dope compared to theirs. Now don't think I have a stupid dog & he knows some good tricks himself, but he is a bit on the lazy side :(

Since everyone is still calling to book sessions with the "Best" Santa & finding we are totally booked for 2009, start thinking about booking a Santa Sunday Session for 2010. It is never to early to book a time slot for 2010. The dates will be... Nov. 7 2010, Nov. 14th 2010, Nov. 21st 2010 & Nov. 28th 2010. If we get enough of you to book early, we can think about adding Dec. 5th 2010 as well. We are working on a waiting list for this year as well. Since the lovely "Swine Flu" is hitting the schools right now, we are bound to have a few families needing to cancel. Call me to be one of the first on the 2010 list & if you want one for this year call anyway. Stranger things have happened!

I must say, our first Santa Sunday was amazing!!! Number 1, it was my first full day in the studio, we all had plenty of space :) Number 2, Our Santa is the absolute best Santa you will ever meet!! Number 3, my mother kept everything running smoothly, therefore letting me focus on the kids :) Number 4, we had a special visitor in the studio... Mrs. Claus, who made special ornaments for the kids & filed the lists in a secret place for Santa. Number 5, we had some adorable dogs enter the studio yesterday, & last but not least, Number 6... we had the cutest kids come to visit Santa...EVER!!! They were all polite, dressed beautifully, all sat with Santa & I didn't see one tear all day. I would say 2 thumbs up to the staff & families visiting Santa. Thanks to all of you for making the trip & arriving on time. I hope you all enjoyed the day as much as we all did! I can't wait till next week!

Everyone loves the look here, but don't realize how hard it is to get into these areas. I think only 1 of us from this session ended up with wet feet, so that is pretty good. Outdoor Session with one of my favorite families...

Every year I look forward to taking new pictures of these 3. Ok, Ok, maybe we have a bond because we are family (their Great Grandfather & my Grandfather were twins) & this isn't the only time of year I get to see them, but their Aunt makes sure they get a portrait taken every year of them. We can see how they have grown, any changes like braces, Miss "B"'s new hair cut, etc. We always have something to laugh about & this year we went hiking for a different look. Since I am working on my studio & want to have a memory wall of old pictures of family, I am happy to tell you, these 3 kids will have plenty to share with their children & grandchildren, nieces & nephews :) I know their lives are important & people will be happy to show them off now & 50 years from now. I wish I could find a school picture of my grandfather & his siblings in front of the Studio in the 20's :( This is how important portraits are to me!!! Anyway, I will have the rest of their portraits up soon. Enjoy!

Satisfied Clients...

I have been out all summer looking for new clients, but the one thing I am always careful about is having a great relationship with my old clients too. I met this couple a few years ago. My youngest daughter was going into second grade & had struggled a bit in first grade. All I was hoping for was a kind, soft spoken teacher that would nature my daughter a bit. Well our prayers were answered!!! I started volunteering in her classroom & by the end of the year we had bonded enough to take some Trash-The-Dress photos for her & her husbands 1 year Anniversary. We had a great time that cool morning. I won an award with their romantic portrait & gave them 2 thumbs up for enjoying the moment & trying to forget how cold they really were. I was then asked to take some family photos for his side of the family. It had to be the warmest December day & they had some beautiful places to take nice family photos. We are lucky to keep in touch & were thrilled to hear they were expecting!!! When they called looking for a time to take maternity photos, I gave her a time I was holding open to watch a soccer game & pack for the Applefest the following day. I had booked most of my Saturdays for Fall, but this was important for me to get her in studio before she was too big or the baby was born. We had another great session, lots of laughs & some beautiful portraits for them to treasure forever. I want to thank them for trusting me with such important times in their lives. Wonder, Simplicity & Beauty In Portraits is participating in the 2nd International Charity Model Search to select North America’s Cutest Family and to raise funds for the non-profit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation. (NILMDTS.org)

Are your loved ones North America’s Cutest Family? We’ll give you the opportunity to prove it! Many exciting prizes will be awarded, and the grand prize winner receives a new car!

Model Search Special:
$50.00 entrance fee includes a 30 to 60 minutes model session and one image submitted to the national gallery & you receive a 5X7 print gift for entering.

Finalists will be determined by online votes. Each vote is $1 (no limit on the amount of votes you can cast), and all proceeds from votes benefit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS.org).

Grand prize international winner will be determined from the 52 city finalists. The winners will be selected from the finalist gallery by photography and modeling industry experts. The winning family also receives a session with the renowned portrait artist Sandy Puc’ and international recognition.

Now you can! Santa spends plenty of time with your family, enjoys cookies & milk, goes over their lists & if you provide us with a wrapped gift, they open it with Santa. We take heirloom quality images for you to have forever. They can dress in either formal, casual or even pajamas for the event.
